3G-324M Support Featured in Surf Communication Solutions Latest Media Processing Packages19 February 2006
SURF Communication Solutions today announced the general availability of version 4.1 of Surf enVoip®, its line of open Universal Port solutions that combine a wide range of audio, video, fax, and modem conversion engines in various levels of software and hardware integration, ranging from AMC and PTMC DSP farm resource boards to PCI cards and DSP chip-level solutions. The new version features support for the 3G-324M protocol as well as enhanced audio/video synchronization and inter-DSP communication. This functionality allows for optimized video conference performance with a larger number of participants, specifically addressing the advanced requirements of IMS networks. Surf enVoip 4.1 provides the industry s first completely integrated media processing solution, which runs audio, video, fax and modem media as well as the 3G-324M protocol simultaneously on one DSP, Texas Instruments TMS320C64x® DSP generation. The same DSP also supports UDP/IP, RTP, and H.223 for 3G-324M, making the solution scalable and effective by eliminating Host-DSP bottlenecks. In addition, Surf provides an open DSP framework that allows telecom infrastructure manufacturers to integrate their own user-defined channel and incorporate ANSI-C algorithms in the DSP. Surf s approach is unique since all other solutions separate audio and video processing and run them on different DSPs/sub-systems or divide the processing between the Host and the DSP. Running both audio and video together provides a quality solution with better performance and reduced cost because it enables dynamic modification of the channel during run-time to support audio applications now and audio+video later. Surf s products are optimized for media gateway applications and CTI, messaging, streaming, recording and conferencing applications. Audio and video streaming capabilities as well as audio and video mixing capabilities, including dominant speaker detection, are also supported. These solutions are provided on variety of platforms: AMC/PTMC DSP farms as well as PCI cards and DSP chip-level. In addition, Surf has cooperation agreements with cPCI and ATCA manufacturers to provide an integrated solution of Surf s AMC/PTMC mezzanine cards mounted on cPCI and ATCA carriers. "This new release firmly positions Surf at the leading edge of media processing technology for telecom equipment manufacturers," states Avi Fisher, CTO of Surf Communication Solutions. "Support for the 3G-324M protocol allows our customers to leverage the circuit-switched network to support the delivery of delay-sensitive applications, such as video streaming and video conferencing. We run the H.223 and the audio/video transcoding on the DSP, not the host, which translates to shorter delay, higher quality and better performance overall, especially suited to the IMS networks that are continuously proliferating." "Leveraging the processing performance of TI's TMS320C64x DSP generation, highly optimized for video processing, Version 4.1 of Surf enVoip is yet another example of Surf's continued commitment in meeting the demands of telecom customers as they migrate their products to support the emerging IMS network requirements," said Danny Petkevich, worldwide C6000 platform marketing manager, TI.
