Airvana Wins Massachusetts Network Communications Company of the Year and Fastest Growth in Massachusetts

20 March 2006

At its Annual Awards Ceremony last evening, the Massachusetts Network Communications Council awarded Airvana its Company of the Year and Fastest Growth in Massachusetts Awards, recognizing a year of stellar performance and corporate growth. In 2005, the company exceeded $100M in revenue and has been profitable and cash flow positive for 8 consecutive quarters. Airvana, Inc. (www.airvana.com) is an innovator and leader in mobile broadband infrastructure based on 3G 1x EV-DO air interface technology.

Airvana is the first company in MassNetComms' 12-year history to win Company of the Year two years in a row. The awards were accepted by Randy Battat, Airvana's president and CEO, at a dinner event attended by more than 400 industry leaders. Each year MassNetComms presents awards for exceptional achievement over the past year based on statistical information and member votes.

"Airvana continues to demonstrate the strong demand for wireless infrastructure solutions to enable new services for businesses and consumers, and the company's exemplary ability to meet the needs of its customers," said Nina Saberi, chairman, Massachusetts Network Communications Council, and founder and partner, Castile Ventures. "Airvana and its peer companies in Massachusetts have kept the Commonwealth at the forefront of the network communications industry worldwide."

Airvana builds mobile broadband radio access network (RAN) infrastructure for CDMA2000 1xEV-DO. 1xEV-DO is a leading third-generation wireless standard that provides broadband connectivity to over 21 million phones and personal computers around the globe. 1xEV-DO is the most widely deployed mobile broadband technology in the United States, with coverage in over 180 metropolitan areas. Consumers in the United States can chose from over 30 devices, including phones, handsets, PC cards, and laptops with embedded EV-DO modems.

Airvana is a market and technology leader in EV-DO RAN infrastructure. Its technology powers 16 of the world's most dynamic 1xEV-DO networks, on six continents. Airvana's 1xEV-DO infrastructure is based on its unique IP-RAN architecture that delivers carrier-grade mobility, scalability and reliability, and is optimized for mobile broadband multimedia.

Airvana is accelerating innovation in 1xEV-DO with its next-generation products based on 1xEV-DO Revision A. Airvana's Revision A products will not only support high-speed data, but also high-capacity voice-over-IP, packet-based push-to-talk, packet video telephony, and multicast. Airvana was first to publicly demonstrate VoIP over 1xEV-DO Revision A with its partner, Nortel Networks, at the CDMA Americas Congress in September 2005.

"Airvana is honored by MassNetComms' recognition for performance and rapid growth," said Randy Battat, CEO of Airvana, adding that "Airvana's vision of 'Mobile Broadband Everywhere' is fundamentally enabled by the richness of network communications knowledge and talent embodied in New England."

The Massachusetts Network Communications Council Annual Awards Ceremony enjoyed the support of the following sponsors: Charles River Ventures, Deutsche Bank, DLA Piper, Ernst & Young, Mass High Tech, and Silicon Valley Bank.
