Atlanta Telecom Professionals Talk Last Mile16 January 2005
"We are a community organization," said Melanie Bass Brandt, ATP president. "Though our roots and constituents are local to Atlanta, our Last Mile Alternatives event provided an opportunity to bring together our community to help those in need half a world away." The event, attended by 179 telecom professionals, featured a panel of heavyweights discussing last mile connectivity alternatives from fiber to wireless. Panelists included Bob Landstrom of Home Depot, Neale Hightower of BellSouth, Wade Robertson of Xspedius Fiber Group, Carl Peede of Camvera Networks and Mike Henderson of StayOnline. "We were honored to be a part of this event," stated Hunter Newby, Chief Strategy Officer, tel(x), and event moderator. "ATP's decision to donate 100 percent of the proceeds highlights ATP's dedication to the community at-large." tel(x) established the Telecom Industry Tsunami Relief Fund to provide the industry with a coordinated method of contributing to the efforts of Direct Relief International, a non-profit organization providing medical aid and supplies to those devastated in the recent earthquake and resulting tsunamis in Southeast Asia.
