BroadSoft Walks Away With the 2006 Frost & Sullivan Excellence in Technology Award for Its Unique BroadWorks Communicator10 February 2006
Frost & Sullivan's recent analysis on information & communications technology selected BroadSoft, Inc. as the recipient of the 2006 Award for Excellence in Technology for its breakthrough multimedia softphone, BroadWorks Communicator, and for continually expanding and refining its innovative 'BroadWorks' product platform. This next-generation voice application platform enables fixed and mobile carriers to offer advanced voice and multimedia applications and innovative features. Each year, this Award is presented to a company that has pioneered the development and introduction of an innovative technology in the market; a technology that has either impacted or has the potential to impact several market sectors. This Award recognizes a company's successful technology development that is expected to bring significant contributions to the industry in terms of adoption, change, and competitive posture. It also recognizes the company's overall technical excellence and its commitment toward technology innovation. Internet telephony's remarkable technological advances have not protected it from interoperability issues that arise when carriers migrate from conventional public switched telephone network (PSTN) equipment to VoIP based networks. Companies are developing software and equipment that eliminates or at least, reduces such problems. BroadSoft is the vanguard of VoIP application software development, with its most recent innovation being the BroadWorks Communicator. This is a video session initiation protocol (SIP) softphone for Windows 2000 and XP that is tightly integrated with the BroadWorks platform. "The Communicator has access to BroadWorks' many advanced VoIP features such as video services, complete call control, and messaging/voicemail integration," says Frost & Sullivan Industry Analyst Sivakumar Muthuramalingam. "Further, the BroadWorks Communicator(TM) enables users to make calls from anywhere using their personal computer and a high-speed Internet connection." Since it is integrated with the BroadWorks platform, service providers can auto provision the client, provide automatic updates, and version management seamlessly through the BroadWorks application server. One of the major benefits of this integration is that it offers clients central storage of contacts, eliminating the need to duplicate contact lists. As the leading open protocol for VoIP, SIP enables BroadSoft to interoperate with various equipment and software thereby being immensely useful to service providers deploying network-based VoIP services. It also provides businesses and consumers with numerous options in terms of customer premise equipment (CPE). "The most promising aspect of BroadWorks is that it is a single system platform from which a wide array of business and residential services can be deployed," notes Muthuramalingam. "These network-based VoIP services include IP Centrex, hosted IP PBX, business trunking, mobile PBX, and broadband voice services." Moreover, with its new softphone, the BroadWorks Communicator offers service providers a feature-rich end-user application that can deliver advanced telephony and video features. About BroadSoft, Inc. BroadSoft's VoIP application software is revolutionising the delivery of hosted telephony and multimedia services. Its flagship BroadWorks(R) technology empowers wireless and wireline carriers to deliver next-generation voice and multimedia applications and advanced features that increase revenue, enhance competitive differentiation and elevate customer satisfaction. BroadSoft's family of carrier-class software products delivers the scale, open architecture and reliability that the world's leading telecommunications companies demand to serve mission-critical enterprise and residential broadband customers. BroadSoft's customer base of more than 150 network operators, including BellSouth, Korea Telecom, Singtel, Telstra, T-Systems, Verizon and XO Communications, leads the industry with more than 1,750,000 lines deployed.
