Brown County WI Now a Global Leader in Emergency Rescue Capabilities14 December 2005
CML Emergency Services, a world leader in emergency communications systems, software and radio dispatch consoles, today announced the deployment of a system in Brown County, Wisconsin. The system will deliver advanced emergency call-taking, automatic name and location information (ANI/ALI), mapping (GIS) and cell phone positioning (Phase-II Wireless). Brown County will also receive the world's first truly mobile PSAP, CML's CommandPOST. "CML, in conjunction with its local partner TDS Telecom, offered the best combination of performance, value and service," said Jim Nickel, Brown County's Director of Public Safety Communications. "On the price side, we examined the cost of ownership over three, five and even ten years, and CML was a clear winner because its systems easily upgrade to take advantage of new technologies-no "forklift" replacements are necessary. On the service side, CML provides 24x7 remote monitoring and TDS is always on-call and just down the street if we need them. As for performance, we did our due diligence, spoke with many satisfied CML customers and concluded that we made the right choice. All of us who work in Brown County Public Safety are excited about the higher level of service we can now offer our citizens." To illustrate the higher level of service that's possible with Phase-II Wireless, Mr. Nickel referenced an overnight emergency call that was received in January 2004 during a raging snowstorm. It came from a snowmobiler who had just crashed through the ice and into frigid Lake Michigan. The man, half submerged and clinging to the side of the hole in the ice with one hand, cell phone in the other, could not report his specific location... only that he was in Green Bay and in big trouble. A search helicopter was dispatched and, 2 hours and 40 minutes later, the man was finally found, suffering from hypothermia but still alive. With a Phase-II Wireless system in place, the location of cell phone calls is instantly pinpointed and mapped, which eliminates the need for searches. Had the CML system been in place at the time, the snowmobiler could have been rescued in minutes. "In the ten-years that we've worked together as partners, time and time again, TDS and CML have demonstrated that we share the same philosophy," said Georgine Bohl, TDS Account Manager. "We do whatever it takes to achieve our clients' goals and meet their expectations. If that means we do a deployment at midnight or a switchover at 3:00AM, so be it. Our customers' priorities come first." "With the availability of grants and other funding for Public Safety organizations to modernize, there's really no excuse for waiting," said Steve Panyko, CML's President and CEO. "If necessary, CML can provide counsel and guidance on the financial side of the process, just as we and our partners assist our clients achieve their operational objectives. Our role is as it has been for 25 years; to ensure that Public Safety communications centers can respond more effectively to emergency situations. We do that with our advanced technologies, strategic alliances with partners such TDS, and an insatiable commitment to our clients' success."
