Chadbourne & Parke LLP Expands Russian Practice8 November 2005
The international law firm of Chadbourne & Parke LLP today announced that it has opened an office in St. Petersburg, Russia. The office initially is being staffed by three attorneys all of whom have been previously associated with Coudert Brothers in St. Petersburg. The St. Petersburg team includes counsels Alexander A. Kalinov and Konstantin A. Osipov and associate Nonna K. Crane. A fourth attorney, senior associate Ludmila A. Yegorova, formerly from Coudert's Moscow office, joined the Firm on November 1 in Moscow and will split her time between Moscow and St. Petersburg. The establishment of the St. Petersburg office extends Chadbourne's significant presence in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) where it currently has offices in Moscow, Kyiv, Almaty and Tashkent, and expands its capabilities in areas such as oil and gas, telecommunications and real estate infrastructure as well as increasing its capabilities in corporate and corporate finance work. The Firm announced the opening of its six-lawyer Almaty office in July 2005. The Almaty office is staffed with attorneys all previously with Coudert Brothers. "This acquisition reinforces Chadbourne's commitment to expand our presence across Europe and the CIS to offer clients increased capabilities in global markets," said Charles K. "By expanding to St. Petersburg, we are able to meet our local clients' needs in this rapidly growing market." Mr. Kalinov, 36, has extensive experience advising Russian and multinational companies on a variety of legal, transactional, regulatory, corporate, commercial and finance matters. His work has included assisting major U.S. oil companies in structuring investment in the Siberian oil fields; advising with respect to oil field exploration in the Russian Far East; and participating in work related to the Sakhalin II project. In addition, Mr. Kalinov has advised a number of telecommunications companies on transactional matters. He received his law degree, with honors, from St. Petersburg University in 1992, MPA from the American University in 1996 and an LL.M., with distinction, from Georgetown University Law Center in 2002. He is admitted to practice in Russia and the State of New York. Mr. Osipov, 34, has focused his practice on civil and commercial, corporate, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions and litigation matters. He has provided a broad array of legal services to a major Russian pulp and paper producer over the course of a two-year anti-hostile takeover defense, including advising on issues of Russian corporate law, civil procedure and civil law. Mr. Osipov also has significant experience in the telecommunications sector. He received his law degree, with honors, from St. Petersburg State University School of Law in 1996. In 1994-95, Mr. Osipov studied law in Cleveland State University. He is admitted to practice in Russia. Ms. Crane, 33, specializes in corporate, securities, real estate, secured lending, leasing, telecommunications, pharmaceutical and hotel industry matters. She has advised on structuring of cross-border leasing operations in Russia, engaged in a number of merger and acquisition transactions; and rendered advice in a wide range of foreign investment deals in Russia. She received her B.A. from St. Petersburg State University, MPA from Appalachian State University and J.D., cum laude, from the University of Florida College of Law in 2001. She is admitted to practice in the State of New York. Ms. Yegorova, 39, advises U.S. and European companies in the telecommunications, real estate, oil and gas and pharmaceutical sectors on a wide variety of corporate transactions in Russia and the CIS. These include mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, inbound investment and real estate transactions. She received her degree in law, with honors, from Leningrad State University in 1989, and her LL.M. from the University of Illinois College of Law in 1994. She is admitted to practice in Russia.
