Chairperson of National Parole Board announces appointment of new executive director14 June 2006
Mario Dion, Chairperson of the National Parole Board (NPB) is pleased to announce today the appointment of Françoise Girard as Executive Director of the Board effective July 4, 2006. Ms. Girard started her professional career as a journalist with Radio Canada in 1977. She joined the federal government in 1978 and during the past 28 years of public service has worked in a number of federal government departments and agencies including 18 years at the executive level in communications, policy, programs and human resources. Ms. Girard is currently Director General of Corporate Services and Transition Management at the Office of Indian Residential School Resolution Canada. Prior to that she was Director of Electoral Operations and Communications at Elections Canada; Director General of Human Resources at the Department of Justice; and Director of Complaints and Investigations at the Canadian Human Rights Commission. Other departments at which she worked include: Human Resources Development Canada; Industry Canada; Regional Industrial Expansion; External Affairs; Industry, Trade and Commerce; Canada Post; and, Labour Canada. The Executive Director of NPB is the chief operating officer of the Board and is responsible for providing corporate leadership of the five regional offices as well as finance, human resources, policy & planning, information management and administration at the NPB's national office in Ottawa. The National Parole Board is an independent tribunal which makes decisions on the timing and conditions of release of offenders on parole. The Board contributes to the protection of society through the timely re-integration of offenders into the community. The Board's first and foremost consideration in its decision-making is the safety of the public.
