Charys Technologies Group Tactical Wireless Surveillance Solutions Keep the Peace

20 July 2006

Charys Holding Company, Inc. ("Charys") (OTC Bulletin Board: CHYS) today announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Charys Technologies Group, Inc. ("CTG"), has successfully deployed and utilized its Tactical Wireless Surveillance Solutions for five Central Florida Sheriffs' Offices during two major Fourth of July festivals in Seminole County, Florida. Working with local law enforcement, CTG deployed the Wireless Surveillance Solutions for major events in both Sanford and Altamonte Springs, Florida. The systems provided live video throughout the event grounds, which were closely monitored by trained, public safety officials.

CTG collaborated with public safety personnel to develop a portable communications solution, chiefly used for video surveillance at community events or public safety incidents. The system consists of video cameras and wireless data nodes strategically placed throughout a designated area and a mobile command center that houses the network management controls and viewing stations to allow for real-time monitoring.

"This was an important initiative for both law enforcement and CTG," commented CTG General Manager Terrell Brown. "This was the first deployment of a portable communications solution of this kind, and again demonstrated CTG's ability to execute a first-of-a-kind system with practical uses." CTG, as the legacy Wireless Group of Viasys Network Services, Inc., was responsible for such industry firsts as large scale, metropolitan-wide mesh network (Medford, Oregon); port video surveillance (Port of Long Beach, California); full wireless WAN redundancy (Jefferson City, Missouri); and live mobile video/audio surveillance for transit (LYNX-Orlando, Florida).

At both Fourth of July events, the systems were assembled and operational within a couple hours and tested in the days prior to the festivities. Cameras were strategically placed to capture crowd activity. Video was then transmitted wirelessly from the cameras to the wireless nodes, which were placed around the coverage areas to aggregate the video data and resend to the mobile command center. There, trained officers then manned the command centers and viewed the live video feeds and had the ability to dispatch assistance if needed.

Individual Tactical Wireless Surveillance Solutions include a minimum of eight wireless communication radios and five wireless video cameras. Moreover, the solutions have been designed and pre-configured so that multiple Tactical Solutions operated by the same organizations can be combined to make a larger system for additional coverage and capacity.

"CTG seems to have found another nascent wireless application," noted Jennifer Waxman-Loyd, President of Market Intelligence Consulting. "They have established a customer base requiring operational applications and are priced about fifty percent less than their competitors in this sector."

While originally conceived and designed for law enforcement video monitoring, additional devices such as Voice over IP (VoIP) phones, PDAs, and laptops can connect to the system. Further, the system can be connected to satellite or a wireless backhaul system to allow access to remote users.

"This successful project illustrates the CTG strategy of leveraging technology and expertise into a marketable product line," said Michael Oyster, CEO of Charys Technologies Group. "The next generation of Tactical Wireless Communication Solutions will be geared toward the disaster recovery industry. Organizations can deploy these systems and enable Internet, video and phone service to first-responders, remediation crews and insurance agents. Charys subsidiary, Crochet & Borel Services, Inc.("C&B"), a disaster recovery company, adds value to its clients with the rapid deployment of wireless mesh network services -- demonstrating how integrated the Charys family subsidiaries can actually become. With this type of synergy, the benefits the companies receive from each other can only continue to grow."
