China Academy of Telecommunication Research (CATR) Selects Tektronix as Premiere Supplier for 3G Network Environment Testing6 June 2006
Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE: TEK), a worldwide provider of communications network management and diagnostics products, today announced that China Academy of Telecommunication Research (CATR), a division of The Ministry of Information Industry (MII), has chosen Tektronix as its premiere supplier for the 3G network environment testing. CATR has specified that Tektronix' K1297-G20 protocol tester and K15 protocol analyzer will become the standard testing tools for the upcoming 3G network environment testing project. The industry leading K1297and K15 protocol testing platform will allow CATR to deliver high quality conformity and certification services to 3G telecommunication equipment manufacturers in China.
As an authoritative assessment body performing telecommunication certification based on mandatory state standards, CATR plays a key role in facilitating the roll out of the nation's 3G network. The new testing package will be installed in its mobile telecommunication lab to carry out test, inspection and certification for telecom products and mobile network equipment in China. K15 protocol analyzer will be deployed to evaluate and benchmark the system performance and interoperability of 3G networks from all vendors and across all standards including TD-SCDMA, WCDMA and CDMA2000. K1297, in combination with TD-SCDMA NodeB, will allow CATR to set up the standard TD-SCDMA UE testing platform for the validation of TD-SCDMA UE conformance.
In addition to the newly added instruments, the MTnet laboratory at CATR has already installed sets of K1297 protocol analyzer and K1205 protocol testers for 2G and 2.5G network testing.

About K15
Tektronix' K15 protocol test platform and application software support troubleshooting of live and trial 3G, 2.5G, and 2G mobile networks. It is a high-end, portable hardware platform with a suite of advanced software applications. The platform runs on a high-performance cPCI bus architecture that hosts several boards to connect to multiple interfaces including E1/T1/J1 electrical, STM-1 optical, and 10/100 Mbit/s Fast Ethernet. Remote control and NTP/GPS time synchronization between different units are integrated into the platform. Available software applications include decoding for EDGE, UMTS and CDMA2000 protocols; expert software for real-time Multi-Interface Call Trace for EDGE, UMTS and CDMA2000; automatic UMTS Iub monitoring configuration; and offline GPRS network performances analysis.

The K1297 Protocol Tester is a portable, multi-protocol, multi-interface tester that provides all the tools required for passive monitoring and interactive protocol testing. The K1297 Protocol Tester can be used by lab technicians in development testing, or by installation and maintenance service engineers to perform difficult field measurements.
