Cingular Investing More than $12 Million in Treasure Valley Network30 June 2006
Cingular Wireless, the nation's largest wireless carrier, is investing more than $12 million to extend network coverage and enhance quality for customers in the Treasure Valley. New cell sites began coming on air in November 2005. By the end of 2006 the company expects to add a total of 19 new cell sites to support increased voice and data usage. "Cingular Wireless is committed to building the best network for its customers and we're determined to deliver on the commitment in the Treasure Valley," said Dewey Garner, Director of Sales for Utah/Southern Idaho, Cingular Wireless. "Seventy-five percent of the new sites will be on air and providing a higher quality network experience for customers by early July." Here are some of the highlights: * In the Boise area 10 new cell sites are improving coverage in areas that include Downtown, the North End, Franklin and Orchard, and in the Flying "Y" area. * In the Nampa/Caldwell area four new cells sites are increasing coverage in Downtown Nampa, South Nampa, at Karcher and I-84, and near Kuna. * In Meridian two new cell sites will serve areas where the population is growing. * Hidden Springs, another area growing quickly will have a new cell site later this year. * On Interstate 84 near Mud Springs, a new cell site will add coverage between Boise and Mt. Home * A new cell site in Melba will improve quality and coverage. Network Testing Cingular diligently monitors the quality and coverage of its network. Across the nation technicians, and other third-parties, will drive test nearly 30 million miles of the network during the year to improve coverage and quality. That's the equivalent of more than 50 round trips to the moon to ensure customers receive the best possible wireless experience in the United States. Enhancing the Customer Experience Cingular leads the industry in educating customers about their new service at the point of sale. New customers who sign up for service at a store or kiosk receive a Cingular Service Summary with a synopsis of their calling plan and its features along with an estimated first bill. Customers who sign up over the phone or the Internet will receive a Welcome Kit Brochure through the mail. Additionally, the company offers an interactive mapping tool at all retail locations and by calling 1-866-CINGULAR. The tool provides customers with up- to-date wireless coverage information and is designed to answer specific coverage questions based on an address, street intersection, zip code or even a landmark.
