Click the Right Link and CellForCash.com will Donate $3 to Special Olympics Every Time You Sell an Old Cell Phone16 May 2005
WWW.CellForCash.com, a partner in the Recycle for Special Olympics initiative, has come up with a new way for people to express their support for Special Olympics athletes – click a link on the www.CellForCash.com website and donate $3 to Special Olympics every time they sell an old cell phone for cash.
RMS Communications Group Inc., the company that operates the www.CellForCash.com web site, announced earlier this year that it would partner with Special Olympics throughout the year on a number of fund-raising initiatives. The program could raise significant revenue for Special Olympics athletes if enough people click the web site link when they sell their old phones.
“We are proud to be affiliated with Special Olympics, and this $3 per phone promotion has the potential to raise significant dollars for these very worthy athletes,” said James Mosieur, chief executive officer of RMS Communications. “We hope everyone who visits www.CellForCash.com to sell an old cell phone will click the link.”
The link, which is identified by the Special Olympics logo, is prominently displayed on the web site.
While the U.S. lags behind much of the industrialized world in phone recycling, American consumers tend to upgrade their phones more often than people of other nations. The result: About 130 million wireless phones that could end up in landfills each year if they are not recycled.
Selling old cell phones and clicking the Special Olympics link on the www.CellForCash.com website offers an opportunity for people across the country to support athletes with intellectual disabilities, helping them gain acceptance in their communities while achieving in their sports.
The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
Intellectual disabilities can be caused by any condition which impairs development of the brain before or during birth or in early childhood. More than 250 causes have been discovered, but they account for only about 25% of the causes of intellectual disabilities. According to the World Health Organization, there are 170-190 million people living with intellectual disability, making it the largest disability in the world. Unfortunately, members of this group are often misunderstood, stereotyped and discriminated against.
