Communication Conference Honors Ronald Reagan23 January 2006
Often hailed as the great communicator, Ronald Reagan has provided inspiration for an entire convention devoted to communication. The Say What You Mean Convention is slated to be an annual event taking place around the anniversary date of the former President's birthday. The first convention is scheduled to take place February 1st through 3rd. Organizer and founding sponsor, JoJo Tabares of Art of Eloquence expects the cyberspace venue to be more accommodating for participants than traditional convention settings.
«Communication is an increasingly vital part of Christian life,» says Tabares, an author who specializes in teaching communication skills from a Christian and humorous approach, «As Christians we must learn to communicate our values boldly, but tempered with grace and humor for which Reagan was famous.»
Citing Reagan's grace and humor in communicating his Christian worldview, Tabares explains that participants will be encouraged to explore effective communication skills in an entertaining way that will help them express their faith more effectively.
«It's important as parents, teachers and business leaders that we find the right balance to say what is on our hearts as Christians,» says Tabares, «rather than not speaking out of fear or having our words dismissed due to perceived aggressiveness. That is what we aim to demonstrate and edify throughout the convention.»
Though entirely virtual, the convention features standard conference elements including keynote and guest speakers, drawings and contests. Materials to support the interactive chat seminars will be available for guests to download.
«This convention is aimed at Christians who want to hone their communication skills,» explains Tabares, «this year we are focusing on homeschooling families and small business professionals so an online convention was a natural choice to avoid participants having to deal with entrance fees, parking and childcare in order to attend.»
The three day event features Christian communication topics with speakers organized by daily theme including homeschooling, small business and classroom teachers. Sponsors for the event include Art of Eloquence, The Old Schoolhouse Magazine, Grapevine Studies, HomeSchool Talk Radio and Write Shop.
