Evans to Appear as one of 25 Greatest Rivermen20 January 2007
Peoria, Ill. (January 18, 2007) - Center Doug Evans, whose No. 9 Rivermen sweater is one of three retired in Peoria professional hockey history, will appear and sign autographs on Friday, January 19 as part of U.S. Cellular's 25 Greatest Rivermen of All-Time. Evans player cards will be handed out to the first 2,500 fans. Evans, a member of the 1985 Rivermen International Hockey League (IHL) Turner Cup during his rookie season, played eight full seasons in Peoria and parts of four others. The 5-foot-9, 185-pound native of Peterborough, Ontario, is the all-time (regular season and playoffs) Rivermen leader in games played (700), goals (269), assists (527), points (796) and penalty minutes (PIM-1,441). A charter inductee of the Rivermen Hall of Fame in 1991, he played in 355 career NHL games for the St. Louis Blues, the Winnipeg Jets and the Philadelphia Flyers with 135 points (48g, 87a) and 502 PIM. On Friday, January 19, the Rivermen face off against the rival Chicago Wolves at 7:30 p.m. at Carver Arena. It is McDonald's Night. The first 3,000 adult fans will receive a free sandwich coupon and the first 500 kids will receive a McDonald's hand clapper. It is also a Coca-Cola/Insight Date Night, as fans receive two (2) tickets, two (2) Cokes and a tub of popcorn for just $25.
