Exar Adds Clock Generator Family - One of Few Companies Offering Four Leading Clock Solutions: Zero Delay Buffers (ZDB); Clock Generator Intelligent D11 April 2006
Exar Corporation (Nasdaq: EXAR), a leading provider of high-performance, mixed-signal silicon solutions for the worldwide communications infrastructure added a new family of clock generators to its expanding clock and timing solution portfolio. With these four new devices -- the XRK6977x Series -- plus ZDB products announced in February 2006, IDCS products announced in September 2004, and the PSB solutions announced in March 2004, Exar becomes one of few companies providing four leading clock and timing capabilities to customers. Exar's clock product portfolio spans applications from telecommunications, networking to servers and consumer applications. "Representing Exar's sixth clock and timing introduction overall, and second clock launch in less than two months, today's release demonstrates the Company's continuing focus on this growing market," said Bahram Ghaderi, vice president and general manager, Network and Transmission Products Division. "Exar has extended its analog Phase Lock Loop (PLL) design expertise to yet another area identified by customers seeking new solutions to their design challenges." Product Highlights This new family of PLL based LVCMOS clock generators includes the XRK69772, XRK69773, XRK69774 and XRK697H73. The XRK6977x family can generate a multitude of different bank frequency ratios and output-to-input frequency ratios from a single clock signal source. This is accomplished by each device using PLL circuit to frequency lock its outputs to the input reference clock. The divider in the feedback path then determines the frequency of the VCO. In addition, each of the separate output banks can individually divide down the VCO output frequency. The XRK6977x family is highly flexible accepting either a crystal oscillator input or one of two LVCMOS compatible inputs for use as the input reference clock source. The XRK697H73 can accept either PECL or one of the two LVCMOS inputs. The XRK69772, XRK69773 and XRK697H73 can select between one of three reference inputs and provide (12) LVCMOS outputs -- (3) banks of (4) for clock distribution, (1) for feedback and (1) for synchronization. The XRK69774 can select between one of two reference inputs and provide (14) LVCMOS outputs -- (2) banks of (5) and (1) bank of (4) for clock distribution and (1) for feedback. The XRK697H73 adds the higher drive and lower impedance capability to XRK69773. To support clock redundancy, two LVCMOS inputs are provided where switching the internal reference clock is controlled by the control input. "The XRK69772, XRK69773, XRK69773 and XRK697H73 are ideal for a broad range of applications in a wide array of markets," said John Demiray, director of strategic marketing, Network and Transmission Products Division. "These products provide an opportunity for Exar to engage in many designs that require multi-sourced industry-standard devices."
