Extended Systems Expands Device Support to Key New Enterprise Devices6 December 2004
Extended Systems (Nasdaq:XTNDE), a leading provider of mobile application solutions for the enterprise, unveiled today several enhancements to its OneBridge Mobile Solutions Platform. Notable new features include extended administrator provisioning controls for managing devices, optimized Palm OS(R) synchronization, and expanded device support.
In the past, large customer deployments typically ranged from hundreds to several thousands of users. With customers now planning enterprise-wide deployments of business applications out to over 10,000 mobile workers, 4.2 Service Pack 1 provides administrators with extended controls to manage remote devices from enforcing remote installations and updates for on-device components, extended device inventory reporting, and configurable installation packaging tools.
"The business benefits of Treo(TM) smartphones, with their iconic phone form factor and ability to deliver wireless email and other applications, has led more and more companies to treat the Treo smartphone as a vital company asset on par with a notebook," said Joe Fabris, director of wireless marketing for palmOne. "Extended Systems keeps adding value and allowing those assets to grow in a managed way."
In addition to generally supporting a multitude of devices on the Microsoft Windows Mobile (Pocket PC, Pocket PC Phone Edition and Smartphone), Symbian, Palm OS, and Windows 2000/XP platforms, OneBridge has certified new mobile devices, including the Nokia 9500 Communicator, Sony Ericsson P910, Sprint Harrier (HTC Blue Angel), and the Treo 650 smartphone by palmOne. As opposed to spot testing devices on reference platforms, OneBridge certification provides for in-depth testing of device functionality across carriers, regions, and languages. This release extends our certification to more than 85 devices across the Symbian, Palm OS, and Microsoft Windows Mobile platforms. With the latest OneBridge release, enterprises deploying mobile PCs and an ever-growing range of devices will have their evolving mobility needs addressed.
