Four Quebec school boards select TELUS as their technology partner of choice5 February 2005
TELUS, Canada's IP technology leader, continues to make significant inroads in the field of education in Quebec with the recent signing of four agreements with school boards in the Greater Montreal and Quebec City areas. The total value of the agreements exceeds $3 million, and TELUS now serves more than 30 of the provinces 72 educational institutions.
The contracts call for deployment of a number of state-of-the-art communications and network solutions including IP telephony, dedicated fibre- optic links, voice messaging systems, Interactive Voice Response (IVR) and enhanced call centre functions. School boards will benefit from enhanced quality and flexibility of their data and voice transmissions as well as achieve significant cost savings.
In Quebec City TELUS signed a contract with the Commission scolaire de la Capitale, the region's largest school board. The board serves 30,000 students in 72 facilities throughout the Quebec City area.
In the Greater Montreal area, TELUS has finalized agreements with the Commission scolaire de la Pointe-de-l'Ile, the Lester B. Pearson School Board and the Commission scolaire de la Seigneurie-des-Mille-Iles.
The Commission scolaire de la Pointe-de-l'Ile contract calls for TELUS to replace the existing voice system including 500 business lines and ensure the maintenance of the board's entire telecommunications network for its 73 schools.
TELUS will modernize the Lester B. Pearson School Board's Administrative Centre's telecommunication network and supply state-of-the-art IP telephone systems for the board's 62 schools. Long distance service will be routed on TELUS' Next Generation Network (NGN), based on IP protocol infrastructure. The agreement with the Commission scolaire de la Seigneurie-des-Mille- Iles, of Saint-Eustache, calls for TELUS to replace the board's existing telephone system with an IP-based network. TELUS will also supply a dedicated fibre-optic Internet access link as well as local and long-distance service. The school board has 85 facilities serving 42,000 students.
"It is essential that schools and school boards are equipped with the best available communications solutions so they are better able to fulfill their role of preparing our young people for the future," said Yves Salvail, TELUS Vice President, Government and Public Sector Markets. "We are very pleased these four school boards have joined a growing family of public sector organizations that have partnered with TELUS to take advantage of the latest in data, IP and voice solutions."
