GSA'S Two-Day Networx Transition Summit Starts Wednesday

6 September 2006

The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) hosts the two-day, "GSA Networx Transition Summit" in Reston, Va., starting on Wednesday, Sept. 6.

Held at the Hyatt Regency Reston, the Networx Summit will update federal customer agencies and industry partners on details of the transition plan and new opportunities available under Networx's 10-year, $20-billion telecommunications contract, which GSA expects to award in spring of 2007.

The Networx Transition Summit is a cornerstone of GSA's strategy to enable agency transition managers and industry partners to get acquainted as they learn about opportunities to work together to plan, coordinate and implement the transition from existing telecommunications services under GSA's FTS2001 contract.

GSA has ensured that federal agency customers will have uninterrupted services throughout the Networx procurement and transition period through bridge contracts signed this summer with existing providers. These bridge contracts ensure that FTS2001 telecommunications contracts with Sprint Communications, L.P. and MCI WorldCom Communications, Inc. (now Verizon Business) extend beyond their original expiration dates of December 2006 and January 2007, respectively.

Networx Summit activities include a networking event Wednesday afternoon, along discussion topics such as:

* Inventory validation

* Industry's perspective on the transition to Networx

* Fair Opportunity and the steps to take for order placement

* Measuring transition progress

* Transitioning GSA-provided consolidated local service systems

For registration and more information please visit http://www.networkservices.gsa.gov.

Press Note: Thank you for honoring the GSA Networx Summit press policy to obtain permission from speakers, including panelists, before attributing quotes to them. Please respond to jon.anderson@gsa.gov if you have questions.

GSA is a centralized, federal procurement, property management, policy development and information provision agency, created by Congress to improve government efficiency and help federal agencies better serve the public. In this role, GSA acquires products and services on behalf of federal agencies; plays a key role in developing and implementing government-wide policies; provides services and solutions for the office operations of more than one million federal workers; and encourages a citizen-centric relationship with government by providing a single "point of entry" to the information and services citizens need in a timeframe they can appreciate. This allows citizens to receive accurate, timely and consistent answers and information, and helps federal agencies better respond to citizen inquiries.
