Innovative Global Video Network Launches17 April 2005
McKibben Consulting, partnered with FiberSat Global Services, Inc. and Frontiers Co., Ltd., introduces ASIxpress(TM), a new video transport network offering unique, customer-controlled international service to broadcast, cable, entertainment and enterprise video customers throughout the world. Leaders in video delivery technologies, the three companies have combined forces to offer customers the ability to dynamically exercise direct control over switching between network end points for a flat monthly fee. Service is provided month-to-month with no contract to sign. "By combining our resources, we are able to offer highly protected undersea fiber circuits, global connectivity, a world-class Network Operations Center (NOC), customer controlled on-demand booking, automated circuit management and routing along with 24/7/365 customer care," said Ravi Patel, president and COO of FiberSat Global Services, Inc. "ASIxpress will ride the very robust fiber backbone of the Tyco Global Network (TGN), which currently has hardened termination facilities in over 19 cities throughout the globe."
Customers can originate or receive services among key cities in Asia, the United States and Europe, and cross-connect to any other port on the ASIxpress network by clicking a mouse button. This unique degree of flexibility comes at a fraction of the cost of a comparable satellite link and without the inherent latency issues.
"ASIxpress eliminates the extra hops normally present in multi-continent satellite transmission schemes by providing direct undersea fiber-optic connectivity over a fully managed and redundant packet-switched video network," said Hiroshi Tango, president of Tokyo-based Frontiers Co., Ltd. "The goal is to deliver the highest quality video anywhere it is needed with maximum flexibility at a price that is not distance sensitive."
"The standard service offering consists of a bi-directional 60 megabit per second connection using a DVB-ASI interface at any network point-of-presence. Custom services supported include DVB-ASI rates up to 216 Mbps as well as 270 Mbps SDI/SDTI services," said Mark McKibben, founder of McKibben Consulting. "Employing field proven Forward Error Correction (FEC) technology, state-of-the-art video edge gateways convert each digital video stream into packets. Low-latency OSI Layer 2 (data link) switches then move the packets across a dedicated fiber network with tens of gigabits of overall capacity available to support future customer needs."
ASIxpress supports both unicast and multicast capabilities as part of the standard service offering, with no incremental charges for additional receive sites. No "PGAD" charges. Customers pay for a local bi-directional "port" on the network and there is no additional transport charge whether the destination port is in the next city or on the next continent. Port connections can be switched in real time though a Web-accessible customer control panel.
