MEDIA RELEASE Monday 8 May 2006 State ServicesCommission Inquiry Into Disclosure of Classified InformationAbout the Government's Telecommunications Stocktake Reviewto Telecom The State Services Commissioner, MarkPrebble, today released the Terms of Reference for hisinquiry into the disclosure of classified information aboutthe Government's Telecommunications Stocktake Review toTelecom. Mark Prebble has appointed the State ServicesCommission's Chief Legal Advisor, David Shanks to initiatethe inquiry on his behalf. The Commissioner's Terms ofReference for the inquiry are to: * investigate howTelecom came to possess classified information about theGovernment's Telecommunications Stocktake Review * reportto the Prime Minister and the Minister of State Services onthe outcome of the investigation. Mark Prebble said he hasasked that the inquiry process get under way as soon aspossible. "The assistance of Telecom in providinginformation will aid the inquiry process and iswelcome. "I realise this is a matter of intense publicinterest and I will ensure a fair and robust inquiry processis followed. "The inquiry is expected to be completedwithin a month and I intend for the final report to bepublicly released," Mark Prebblesaid.
