Media Advisory - The British Columbia Pharmacy Association to kick off Pharmacist Awareness Week, March 6-1222 February 2006
A highly trained, easily accessible wealth of knowledge, your local pharmacist is your best bet for medication management and general health information. Pharmacists have expanded their role within the health care system over the past few years, actively providing consultative services for patients. They've added significant value to patient health-care. Pharmacists are providing one-on-one counselling for seniors managing multiple medications. They're explaining results from screening tests. They're helping people kick their smoking habits. Counselling people on long-term management of diabetes, asthma, high blood pressure and high cholesterol is a part of many community pharmacists' practices today. Get to know your local pharmacist. As a front-line health-care professional they are an expert you can go to with a question about medication and get a knowledgeable answer and a courteous explanation. Pharmacist Awareness Week is an effort to get the word out to the public that there is an expert around the corner - a health-care professional who is a tremendous resource. The British Columbia Pharmacy Association will work to raise awareness March 6 to 12. Look for a series of helpful tips and advice from B.C. pharmacists aimed at helping people maximize their personal medicine management. Throughout the province pharmacists will be working to inform, hosting informational sessions and working with government to promote the pharmacist as a front-line community health resource.
