Media Advisory - Voluntary Ruminant Feed Retrieval a Pre-Caution20 November 2006
Agribrands Canada Inc. determined this week that some cattle feed products distributed in eastern Ontario and Quebec between October 31 and November 14, 2006 may have contained trace levels of an ingredient that is not permitted in feed for ruminant animals. The concern stems from the discovery that an approved ruminant feed ingredient had been shipped in a rail car previously used to transport ruminant meat and bone meal. Immediate steps have been taken to trace and retrieve all potentially impacted feed. All affected customers have been notified and have already received replacement feed. The voluntary retrieval is a precautionary measure. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) was promptly notified of all intended actions; in particular the retrieval of all potentially impacted feed, and Agribrands continues to work very closely with CFIA throughout this process. Agribrands is committed to the highest standards of quality and service, and has taken action to prevent a future incident of this nature.
