Motorola Embedded Communications Computing Selected by Siemens as a Preferred Supplier for ATCA-based Open Communications Servers7 June 2006
GLOBALCOMM -- Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced that its Embedded Communications Computing business has been selected by Siemens Communications Group, the telecommunication division of Siemens AG (NYSE: SI), as a preferred supplier of AdvancedTCA(R) based communications servers for Siemens' next generation telecom architecture. "Siemens is committed to apply an open standards-based common platform with AdvancedTCA as a main technology in both its mobile networks and fixed networks portfolio," said Dr. Dieter Carl, Vice President platform strategy of Siemens Communications. "Our customers will benefit due to the need for rapid deployments and converged network build outs to provide new revenue-generating services." "We selected Motorola's Embedded Communications Computing business as a preferred supplier after an exhaustive in-depth review," said Mr. Juritz, Senior Vice President strategic procurement of Siemens Communication. "We believe it has the industry expertise, understanding of our business and product range to be a valued supplier of open communications servers." "Recent Yankee Group research shows that leading Tier 1 telecom equipment manufacturers are embracing the concept of common platforms and estimate a 30% improvement in time-to-market and project development costs from using standards-based communications servers," said Brian Partridge, senior analyst of the Yankee Group. "We are pleased that Siemens has selected Motorola as a preferred supplier of AdvancedTCA based communications servers for its next generation telecom architecture. We believe this is further evidence of the increased acceptance of open, standards-based communications servers as a common platform that will allow companies to focus resources on new services, application innovation and optimize life cycle cost of ownership," said Wendy Vittori, corporate vice president and general manager of Motorola's Embedded Communications Computing. About Motorola's Communications Servers Motorola's communications servers are open, fully integrated systems that act as a common, carrier-grade platform for a wide range of applications. This common platform concept integrates hardware and software elements to enable equipment manufacturers to focus on adding their application-specific value, thereby reducing the time, cost and risk involved in deploying new revenue-generating applications or migrating existing applications to standards-based technology.
