NJ/IABC Celebrates Communications Excellence at Annual IRIS Awards Dinner6 February 2006
The New Jersey Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (NJ/IABC) presented Robert Currie, Vice President and Chief Communications and Public Affairs Officer at J.M. Huber Corporation, with the chapter's "Communicator of the Year" Award at its annual IRIS Awards celebration, held recently at the Hyatt Hotel in Morristown, NJ. Huber in 1998 and is responsible for all of the company's internal and external communications, public relations, crisis communications, corporate philanthropy, and public affairs worldwide. He was recognized as Communicator of the Year for his ongoing leadership and counsel in all aspects of Huber's communication programs, particularly those supporting Huber's Mergers & Acquisitions activity. Huber is a privately held, diversified, multi-national supplier of engineered materials, natural resources and technology-based services. In accepting the award, Currie thanked NJ/IABC; the team supporting Huber's communications efforts; and his family for all of their support in his professional and community pursuits. Currie boasts a history of service to the community, currently serving on the Board of Directors of Save Ellis Island Foundation. His distinguished communications career includes affiliations with IABC, the Council of Communication Management, the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), the National Investor Relations Institute, the American Society of Media Photographers, and the Corporate Communication Institute, of which Huber is a corporate sponsor. The IRIS Awards celebration honored more than 40 communications professionals throughout the state of New Jersey for exemplary work in their field. Best in Show Awards were presented in each of two competition categories: Communication Skills and Communication Management Campaigns. Julie Lux, director, Global Product Communications and Advocacy Relations at Schering-Plough Corporation in Kenilworth, NJ, accepted the Communications Management Best in Show award for Schering-Plough's NasonExpert "Breaking Through the Congested Media for NASONEX" Public Relations campaign. Joan Vander Valk, Vice President, Stern + Associates, Cranford, NJ, won the Communication Skills Best in Show award for the writing associated with "Lees Carpets Product2Faced Release," a Public Relations campaign for Lees Carpets.
