Ontario Economic Summit draws diversity of opinions26 October 2006
The 2006 Ontario Economic Leadership Summit is officially underway and will provide a greater diversity of opinions than ever before. Visionaries from business, labour, academia and government have gathered for the third such summit to hear from noted speakers from Canada and overseas. Opening the Summit on Tuesday, October 24th was Federal Minister of Finance James Flaherty and later today Premier Dalton McGuinty will address the delegates. "The Ontario Economic Leadership Summit is a call to action - an initiative that challenges Ontario's business, labour and academic leaders to step up to their roles as drivers of the provincial economy - to become true partners of government in the road ahead," said Len Crispino, President and CEO of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and CEO of the Ontario Economic Summit in his opening address. "We share a common goal of fostering prosperity in this province through leadership, innovation and collaboration." The over 200 delegates have come from a diversity of sectors and geographic regions of the province. Delegates are committed to finding solutions that they can act upon in their own organizations in the areas of developing human capital; fostering research, innovation and commercialization; and Ontario's competitiveness in the global economy. Tomorrow the Canadian ambassador to the U.S., the Hon. Michael Wilson and Ambassador of the United States to Canada, the Hon. David Wilkins will take part in an interactive discussion with delegates. In addition, they will hear an international perspective when one of the architects of the economic renewal in Ireland, Alan Dukes, discusses "Lessons Learned from the Celtic Tiger".
