Primus Telecommunications Uses Performance Technologies' SEGway(TM) Compact-STP to Enhance Network Services

21 March 2006

Performance Technologies (Nasdaq: PTIX), a leading developer of communications platforms and systems, today announced that PRIMUS Telecommunications Inc., the principal U.S. operating subsidiary of Primus Telecommunications Group, Incorporated (Nasdaq: PRTL), will use the company's SEGway(TM) 6300 Compact- STP to enhance network services for its customers.

Primus Telecommunications Group, Incorporated is a global integrated service provider offering bundled data, Internet, DSL, VPN, voice and other services to customers primarily in North America, Australia, the United Kingdom and Western Europe. The company operates an extensive global network of owned and leased transmission facilities, including 16 carrier-grade international gateways and domestic switches, allowing the company to manage and deliver traffic worldwide.

Performance Technologies' SEGway 6300 Compact-STP will allow PRIMUS to control its own SS7 infrastructure and cost-effectively manage global SS7 network traffic while planning for future VoIP services and other network enhancements, including Global Title Translation (GTT) and Point Code Emulation(TM). It also gives the carrier the ability to configure ITU and ANSI-based traffic on the same STP, allowing PRIMUS to connect to two separate networks at the same time.

"PRIMUS Telecommunications takes pride in the ability to offer customers cutting-edge services both cost-effectively and efficiently," said Ravi Bhatia, president of PRIMUS Telecommunications USA. "Performance Technologies' SEGway 6300 is a proven, cost-effective and IP-enabled STP solution that easily integrates into our existing SS7 infrastructure, giving us the basis to continue to offer new subscriber services and remain a leader in this competitive market for years to come."

The convergence of TDM and IP signaling networks makes it critical that signaling equipment be able to support SIGTRAN for deployment of new VoIP services and interconnectivity with other IP-enabled devices. The SEGway 6300 Compact-STP is a carrier-grade, redundant system designed to bridge SS7 networks by supporting both IP-based and circuit-switched SS7 signaling. The 6300 can scale up to 96 SS7 links and 32 M2PA links and supports a full range of hardware configurations and options for seamless scalability. It is an ideal product offering for small- to mid-sized carriers looking to minimize leasing costs and port charges without a significant capital investment.

"In an increasingly competitive and evolving market, carriers need to offer the most cutting-edge services quickly and cost-efficiently. Legacy SS7 infrastructure costs often inhibit their ability to do this," said Michael Skarzynski, president and chief executive officer of Performance Technologies. "Our STP products were designed precisely to address this problem. For PRIMUS, the 6300 makes sense not only from an economic standpoint, but also from a services standpoint. The product's flexibility allows PRIMUS to address their international traffic needs with room for future growth."

Performance Technologies has been a leading provider of signaling products designed for SS7 over IP connectivity, routing and transport for nearly ten years. These solutions include signaling gateways, STPs, IP-Edge and link replacement products. The company's signaling experts have been involved in the establishment and evolution of SS7 over IP protocols since their inception.
