SPARK a rhythm with TELUS Mobile Music and the LG 8100 mobile entertainment device15 March 2006
TELUS today announced TELUS Mobile Music, offering clients across the country access to Canada's largest mobile music catalogue and the only one offering selections from all the world's biggest record labels - EMI Music, SonyBMG, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group. TELUS also announced the exclusive availability of the LG 8100, a mobile entertainment and communications device packing an MP3 player, stereo speakers, Bluetooth functionality and much more. "TELUS Mobile Music provides the instant gratification of getting the songs you want anywhere, anytime from Canada's largest mobile music library," said Robert Blumenthal, TELUS' Senior Vice President of Products and Services. "The newest addition to SPARK, TELUS' set of consumer-oriented mobile entertainment, information and messaging services, TELUS Mobile Music makes downloading music fast and easy." High Speed Downloads Operating on TELUS' Wireless High Speed network, TELUS Mobile Music lets clients download full-track songs in seconds, thanks to typical broadband download speeds of 400 to 700 kilobits per second (kbps). Based on the CDMA 1xEVDO standard, Wireless High Speed is available in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Montreal and Quebec City, and is expected to roll out to more urban centres in 2006. Where Wireless High Speed is not yet available, clients can access TELUS Mobile Music on the TELUS 1X digital data network at speeds up to 144 kbps. With the unique and easy-to-navigate TELUS Mobile Music Storefront, clients can browse, preview and purchase music for both their wireless phones and their desktop computers. The TELUS Mobile Music Storefront is powered by Musiwave using the ADORA content delivery platform from Digital World Service (DWS). As part of TELUS' ongoing commitment to protect artists' rights, the company has selected SDC to provide full Digital Rights Management protection and the SDC DRM Music player client application on copyrighted music content. TELUS Mobile Music tracks cost $1.99 each, plus a 50 cent download fee - no additional data package is required. Clients get two copies of each song, one for their wireless phone and one for their desktop computer. With Tune Tracker software, clients can quickly identify their favourite songs by holding their wireless phone close to a stereo speaker. If the song is part of the TELUS Mobile Music catalogue, they can immediately download the song via a link on the phone's display. Tune Tracker identification costs an additional 50 cents per song. More information about TELUS Mobile Music is available at telusmobility.com/music. SPARK - Mobile Entertainment and Information in the palm of your hand The introduction of TELUS Mobile Music is part of the new TELUS SPARK lineup of mobile entertainment, information and messaging services for consumers, which also includes TELUS mobile TV, multimedia messaging, downloadable images, ringtones, videos and games, and new Web browser features, including search tools and a broad range of new online content. The SPARK advertising campaign, set to begin formally on March 20, stars TELUS' newest "spokescritters" - a Moluccan cockatoo, a Palm cockatoo and colourful lovebirds.
