Telecom: FreedomWorks State Director Testifies Before Texas Senate Business and Commerce Committee

As part of FreedomWorks' national campaign to reform state and federal telecommunications law, Texas State Director Tina Peyton testified today before members of the Texas State Senate Business and Commerce Committee. FreedomWorks and its 32,000 Texas members believe that individual liberty and the freedom to compete increase consumer choices, lower prices, and grow the economy. Recently, the Texas House Regulated Industries Committee passed two important bills that will create a truly competitive market that allows all providers to compete for customers, and FreedomWorks is running a statewide campaign to support Senate passage of similar legislation.

FreedomWorks Texas State Director Tina Peyton Commented:

"The telecommunications sector has reached a critical juncture. Many providers have no incentive to build the networks of the future under existing regulations. The current rules were written to provide oversight in a world that no longer exists. The Texas State Senate should seek to establish a more competitive framework based on the realities of today's marketplace. The State House has passed legislation to promote a more competitive marketplace; now, the Senate has an opportunity to take an important step forward that facilitates this competition."
