Unitil Files Electric Rate Changes in Massachusetts

Unitil Corporation (Amex: UTL) announced today that its Massachusetts subsidiary filed changes in its Basic Service energy prices with the Massachusetts Department of Telecommunications and Energy ("M.D.T.E."). These changes are expected to take effect December 1, 2006.

A typical residential customer using 500 kWh per month will see their bill increase from $98.49 to $104.77, or 6.4%. Other customers will see increases ranging from 3% - 8%, based on rate class and usage. The increase is due to higher wholesale supply costs for the winter period. The change in rates applies to Basic Service customers only and does not affect customers who have a Competitive electric generation supply.

Basic Service is provided to customers who do not have their own retail competitive electricity supply. This service is procured through a competitive bid process, and the resulting prices are passed through to customers without profit or mark up from the local distribution company. Basic Service prices change for residential and small to medium business customers every six months and every three months for large business customers.
