Broadcasting industry news provided by Financial News USA (OTC: FNWU). XM Satellite Radio (Nasdaq:XMSR) will be the exclusive satellite radio home of the 2007 Bowl Championship Series (BCS) National Championship Game, offering college football fans complete play-by- play coverage on XM Sports Nation (XM Channel 144) as top-ranked Ohio State takes on number-two Florida on January 8. Under an agreement with FOX Sports, XM will be the sole satellite radio network for the BCS National Championship, Allstate Sugar Bowl, FedEx Orange Bowl, and Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. Emmis Communications Corporation (Nasdaq: EMMS) President and CEO Jeff Smulyan and CFO Patrick Walsh will be presenting at next week's Credit Suisse Media & Telecom Conference. A merger of Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. (Nasdaq:SIRI) with larger rival XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq:XMSR) would "be in the interests of shareholders," Sirius' chief financial officer said Wednesday. A tie up among the satellite radio operators would deliver benefits for both investors and consumers, and provide substantial cost savings, David Frear said at an investor conference in New York.
